Plumbing Tips for Homeowners

Not every plumbing problem is preventable, but there are ways you can protect yourself and extend the quality and life of your home’s plumbing system. The tips below will help you get started!

1. BE A LEAK BUSTER.

Leaks are a double threat: they cause damage to faucets and fixtures, and the water lost will show up in your bill. Fix leaks promptly, and actively check your pipes for hidden links, like any under your kitchen sink.

2. STRAIN YOUR DRAIN!

Placing a strainer over bathroom drains will prevent hair and other things from forming clogs.

3. PROTECT YOUR PIPES

Frozen pipes can cause lots of problems and require professional help, so make sure you take the proper precautions to winterize yours. And remember: outdoor pipes aren’t the only ones at risk for freezing! It can happen in unheated indoor spaces as well, like garages and attics.

4. INSPECT AND MAINTAIN YOUR APPLIANCES

Be sure to keep an eye on the many appliances that are connected to your home’s pipes—washers, dryers, sinks, showers, water heaters, and more are all sources for leaks and other problems. By inspecting them regularly and repairing them as needed, you can avoid the need for more costly measures in the future!

5. INSTALL A NEUTRALIZER

One time for a leak in the basement,  once for a new kitchen sink and faucet install, with me supplying the faucet and the sink, another time for repair of a leak under the kitchen sink. And this time for a garbage disposal install, with Stang plumbing supplying the disposal. Each time they were responsive with an upfront price quote. Each time they arrive the next day as promised. All their personnel are polite and professional. Each time the job was done right and the technician left the job site neat and clean when they finished. I think their prices are resonable and competitive, and I do like that they have senior citizen's discount.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an intermittent, but very bad, smell that seemed to be coming from our air vents on hot humid days.  Countless plumbers and other contractors could not find the source ...for over 15 years! Stang was able to find the problem (a broken vent pipe within a wall) and make the quick fix. The job was done in the Fall and although the problem appeared to be resolved, I decided to wait until it was summer-hot again to be sure. This week has been in the upper 90s with heavy humidity and yet...no bad smells.  We are eternally grateful and would recommend Stang to everyone.

Stang was very responsive and came out immediately to give me an estimate.  Jon was very knowledgeable and was able to fix the leak without tearing up my entire basement.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Louis from Stang is a lifesaver. Our basement was flooding on Sunday night. We called an emergency plumber. He told us to unplug our full basement freezer and get some sandbags (are there 24 hour Home Depots I don’t know about?). He said he would come back at 10am the next morning to try to figure out the source of the problem. I got back online, called Stang, and at 9-10pm on a Sunday night, Louis showed up at our house. Within 15 minutes he had figured out that one of our sump pumps was out and the other was on its last legs. He got one running and solved the immediate source of the flooding. We had him come back a week later and replace both sump pumps. This is the guy to call in an emergency!
